Class went well. Finished chapter 12--but our midterms will only cover up to ch 12.
After class Brian and I decided to get a late lunch together. We went to the kimbap shop right between our dorms. Always a good choice-can't go wrong with kimbap! :)
I went to downtown Seoul to Cheonggyecheon. There is a lantern festival and the opening 'ceremony' was today. I thought it started at 5, but it actually started around 6. However, I'm glad I was there early because I was able to be in a good spot. While waiting for the actual event, there was a "fusion band" that played-flute, cello (electronic?), a Korean zither (called geomungo), keyboard and drums. Then the Mayor arrived and gave a little speech. Then he and some other special guests pushed some 'buttons' and it lit up all the lanterns. It was kind of cool--similar to the ball dropping on New Year's Eve, I suppose. I walked along the stream and looked at all the different lanterns-they were all life-size or bigger. Most were of people or animals. I got a bit carried away and just kept walking along Cheonggyecheon and realizing I was too far to turn back and eat or get a "coffee", I kept on to Dongdaemun. I did a little bit of window shopping-just browsing and then finally took the subway back here.
I walked for an hour along the stream and then another hour or so through the shop stalls, so I'm quite tired now. Tomorrow I hope to meet up with some other GOA'L (Global Overseas Adoptee's Link) members and play soccer.

1. Lighting festivals are interesting to us! 2.You made a good comparison--the New Yr's Eve NY City ball-dropping! 3.Wow! Life-size lantern- replicas of living creatures, and very artistically made. Thanks for the photos.--Aunt Ruth & Mike.
