Full Day

Today in class we had a quiz--I felt more prepared for this one. Yesterday we had to pretend we were 'travel agents' and make posters and a trip to 'sell' to our classmates. I was paired with Maite and we picked Santorini (an Greek island). Today we had to present our trips. We were not quite prepared for that but managed to do a decent job.

I was supposed to meet my teacher this afternoon to have a 20 minute chat; I could ask her questions, she asked me what I was struggling with, how to prepare for the midterm etc. She told me I should work on my reading and that in each chapter to go back and read the passages 10 times each. Ten times!!

After my 'interview' with my teacher, I took a walk around campus. It is known for being one of the most beautiful campuses in Korea. I think with the leaves changing colors it really was beautiful--away from the main part. I found the pond, but you cannot really get that close to it. I also found a Buddhist temple right off campus/kind of on campus too.

I stopped at a bakery shop called "Dilly Dally" and got a little pastry for my late lunch/snack. With a Kyunghee University student ID card you can get a 10% discount! Oh yes! (Later I asked my roommate if she has been there before and she told me another restaurant called Homestead Coffee also gives a discount and at the cafe Twosome Place you get a free upgrade!) I brought my pastry home and ate it here.

I read one chapter's paragraph the 10 times as directed by my teacher. It took me about 45-50 minutes to do that!! There are 12 chapters that will be covered in the midterm....

At 7 I met Brian, Jiwon (roommate) and Beautiful Amy (Jiwon's friend--she picked the English name Amy, and we call her "Beautiful Amy" to differentiate between the two of us! :p). We went for (Korean) BBQ--not BBQ in the Southern sense, but BBQ as in you order meat and grill it yourself at your table in front of you. Beautiful Amy made the poor choice to bite into one of the spicy peppers and Jiwon and Brian decided to try as well. It was so spicy Jiwon and Amy were crying! Then we played a game and the loser had to eat part of the pepper. So all of us had fires in our stomachs and we decided to go for ice cream. The Baskin Robins is quite close to campus and Amy didn't want to walk that far, so we went to get 'gelato' (I think, as it was not quite ice cream) at a place very close to our dorms/dinner.

Now I'm ready for bed, but might do a little bit more studying. The smell of grilled meat is lingering on my clothes...oh the experience of Korean BBQ.

  1. 1. We didn't know that Santorini is a Greek island. 2.We had the same reaction to the teacher's suggestion: "Ten Times!!" 3. Glad that you are at one of Korea's most beautiful campuses. 4.All the people in your photos are attractive, but we would have chosen YOU for the nickname "Beautiful Amy." (That will be our secret. Comparisons can breed envy). 5. What a game! (Loser must eat hot pepper!). --Aunt Ruth & Mike.
